The King James translation is one of the most popular English translations available. In 1604, King James I of England authorized that a new translation of the Bible into English be started. The King James translation was finished in 1611, 85 years after the first translation of the New Testament into English appeared in 1526. The KJV is public domain in the United States which allows our website to freely publish and distribute the text. There are 1,189 chapters and 31,102 verses in the King James Version of the Bible.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Originally written in 1706, Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary provides a condensed look at
nearly every verse in the Bible. Greek and Hebrew words are transliterated but because of
the date of this commentary, phrases that Henry used might not translate well into today's
language. Like the KJV, Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary is also public domain and may be
distributed freely.
